From a reliable source on the road for the past few days. Sightings of DOT official vehicles with 18 wheelers pulled off to the side of the road doing cargo checks. My understanding is that for the DOT to do this they need to have a search warrant, they are not allowed to simply pull a rig over, cut the security bond on the doors and search it.
There were three sightings, one in Kentucky...two in Tennessee, all three in the past 12 hours. Any other L&P members seeing similar government activity are requested to pass along the information to L&P members on this board.

I spend a little time on I-10 and I-110 Monday through Thursday, so I'll keep an eye open. I may even carry a small video cam and let them know we're watching. Attempt to take my camera and you've made the national news and bought me a whole new lifestyle in the process.

I'll pass the word in Western NC to keep an eye out. Quite possibly tied in with threats centered on the tenth anniversary of 9-11. As I have heard it there is a "credible" threat (possible but not proven) that small aircraft and large trucks are going to be used to deliver explosives and/or dirty bombs to multiple targets in the US cities. If this is the cause of the random searches then I do believe that under the Patriot Act they could assume the authority to do the searches without a specific warrant. Like it or not welcome to the New America and few would even argure with them if there was a possiblity of saving hundreds of thousands of lives. So it goes....
"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759

The week of Sept. 11th is national brake check week. Typically, they step up enforcement (inspections) the week before, the week of, and the week after said "safety week". They do in deed have the right to search a trailer under the guise of proper hazardous materials loading, cargo blocking and bracing inspections, etc. It's about public safety afterall.... That's why our safety department harps on us about making sure our freight is secure. Tickets for load blocking/bracing/haz mat count against the company's CSA score. We have been told to NEVER try to deny them access to our trailers. They have had this ability for as long as I can remember, (not just since the anti-patriot act) I've been at this for 20+ years, it is nothing new. I believe it is just that they have started enforcing load securement much more often now so more folks are seeing them doing it. I remember a couple of weeks after 9/11 they were pulling tons of trucks over and inspecting them, again, BEFORE the anti-patriot act. The Ohio State Trooper whom pulled me over said that #1- They have to pull over so many trucks a day to keep the politicians and the general public happy, #2- They like to pull over company trucks that they know will pass muster so they don't have to do additional paperwork, #3- They know that terrorists will not mark a hazardous materials load so they targeted marked haz mat loads again, to do less paperwork. That said, increased inspections of the cargo areas of trucks tells me that #1- They are hard up for money and are looking for any even minor infractions to increase revenue or #2- They have Intel about trucks being used for something other than interstate commerce since we are nearing the 10th anniversary of 9/11. We have a couple of local Ohio DOT cops that just sit and wait for big trucks to pull over and inspect along Interstate 280 in Toledo. They are there almost every single day Mon-Fri. So I would suppose the increased inspections are nothing more than a revenue source. Now if folks actually see DHS vehicles behind big trucks, then there may something different afoot. DHS cars and SUV's have the same design stripe on their rear doors that Border Patrol vehicles do, only the stripe is blue, I've seen them personally. I wouldn't pay much attention to this if they are only DOT vehicles.

May not be related to the truck searches but the now public alert for NY and DC and again I have heard other major cities across the nation are also being put on alert just under the radar. I am wondering if the first information I received concerning small aircraft bombs/dirty bombs means they will be looking at possibly restricting air space over major cities.
As always stay vigilant. Trying to keep my aluminum helmet from being too tight but still a real event or false flag could be used to restrict movement and liberties. If you are in a major city be especially aware and make sure your family unit follows protocol because you will be more vunerable if something goes down.
