Jury Nullification... the forgotten Constitutional Right"The primary function of the independent juror is not, as many think, to dispense punishment to fellow citizens accused of breaking various laws, but rather to protect fellow citizens from tyrannical abuses of power by government.
The constitution guarantees you the right to trial by jury. This means the government must bring its case before a jury of The People if the government wants to deprive any person of life, liberty, or property. Jurors can say no to government tyranny by refusing to convict."Fully Informed Jury Association: fija.org/ Jury Nullification - The Top Secret Constitutional Right
"Did you know that you qualify for another, much more powerful vote than the one which you cast on election day? This opportunity comes when you are selected for jury duty, a position of honor for over 700 years.
The principle of a Common Law Jury or Trial by the Country was first established on June 15, 1215 at Runnymede, England when King John signed the Magna Carta, or Great Charter of our Liberties. It created the basis for our Constitutional, system of Justice."Caught.net: www.caught.net/juror.htm

some of my colleagues have been on jury duty lately. They were shocked when I told them this.
PS, if you ever get jury duty, you should probably ASSUME that the offender is in line for a MUCH WORSE sentence than you expect. The judge won't tell you the sentence ahead of time (thats not important for you right?). Many times they get someone for drugs, and the sentence can be LIFE because they're repeat offenders. That happened here a few months ago here, a guy gets busted for bank robbery. No gun, just a note. Life in prison.
