2. Culpeper, Virginia A Living Slice of Americana At the age of 17, George Washington became this Virginia town's first surveyor in 1749.
3. Mount Airy, North Carolina Small Town, USA "Mayberry Days" is put on each September by this Blue Ridge town, the birthplace of Andy Griffith.
4. Abingdon, Virginia Two Centuries of Southern Arts This is the oldest American town west of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Here's my top 4: Paris, Tennessee A Hidden Lakeshore Treasure This Tennessee town hosts the World's Biggest Fish Fry each April… Maryville, Tennessee Heart of the Smoky Mountains Located only 20 minutes from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, this spot boasts some of the region's best fishing and water sports… Hopkinsville, Kentucky Friendliest Place in Kentucky This Kentucky spot's annual Dogwood Festival features the trees' beautiful blooms, plus band concerts, quilt shows and a baking contest... Guntersville, Alabama A Lakeside Haven Resting in an Appalachian Mountain valley, this spot became a peninsula city when a dam turned the valley into a beautiful lake in 1939… Sadly no towns from Arkansas made my list
