Great article Brock. Certainly puts down the well worn cliche used by the left that those enlisting in the military do so for economic reasons and to receive VA benefits for education.

They like to make fun of Southerners, well if there weren't any, they would be in trouble militarily, and I assume a larger percentage of them would take our side than not, although it's basically country versus city folk.

More than half of those who joined the Air Force at the same time as I did were from Southern States. Not sure of the other service branches.

Brock, With all due respect Sir, I am just curious about most of the posts you write. Why do most of them seem to be a North and South thing? I understand your proud of your Southern heritage, as well you should be. Everyone should be proud of where they come from and the part they played in the history of our country. I'm very proud of my Yankee heritage being from New England, but "Yankee" doesn't mean the same thing to me as it does to most Southerners. To you folks, a Yankee is someone who fought against the South during that war. To us, Yankee means the people who defeated the British (along with a few Southern Colonies) to create our nation. The Civil War has been over for 144 years now, why does it seem like some Southerners either won't, or can't get over it. No flaming here my friend. Just an honest question.

Unfortunately, we aren't allowed to get over it by the constant slander and libel of our ancestors. My GGG saved the flag at Brandywine and was fighting for the exact same principles as was my GG, KIA, at Chancellorsville, but right now, this is on the back burner, as all freedom loving people need to pull together. My good friend at Camp Pendleton was a "Yankee" and our views on life were virtually the same. It's country folk versus city folk this century. "it's basically country versus city folk."

Who is slandering your ancesters? And just for the record, as a student of American history in general, and of the Civil war in particular, this is one Yankee who always believed the South had every right to secede from the union, and should have been allowed to go their way in peace.
