"What are you doing for the fourth?", "Big Fourth of July Sale!", "Fourth of July Fireworks.".
We hear those kinds of things all the time when that date draws near. They are statements which have become common place in the lives of Americans across our vast nation. And I've come to dislike them, myself.
The "fourth of July", to one's subconscious mind, is really no different than "the ninth of August", or "the sixteenth of June" -- At least in our general perception. And considering the significance of the date (and our current national crises), it should not be relegated, in our minds or our hearts, to "just another date".
That's why I propose to all who consider themselves Patriots, that we seek to reclaim that historical date, by refusing to call it by such a general term, and call it what it is: Independence Day.
Far too much blood was shed to achieve it, and it deserves, at least, to be called by name, not just by date.
To my mind, it's no less disrespectful than refusing to stand or remove one's hat during the Pledge of Allegiance, or National Anthem. (And if that song doesn't bring tears to your eyes -- especially now -- I wonder where your heart truly lies).
Let's make a promise, here and now, ladies and gentlemen, to call that date by it's name. And not just by a number.
Sincerely,
The Rev.

I actually should have posted this elsewhere. Feel free to move it. My apologies.

I like fireworks and piccolo pete bombs as much (or more) as the next guy, but I think you are right rev.
We have forgotten the founding of our nation and the reason for Independence Day. We remember the bratwurst and hot mustard, but we forget what was fought for and what was sacrificed to give us the opportunity to engage liberty.

I think in addition to the brats, hot mustard, and the pops & whistles of fireworks in our neighborhoods, we should make sure the booming of rifles should be heard, and the pungent aroma of burned gunpowder should drift through the air on Independence Day as well. And on the 19th of April, too, of course. Thanks for the kudos, gentlemen. Very much appreciated. The Rev

We've been calling it Independence Day for years. It really irks me that so many people seem to have forgotten what it's all about. We won't even go to fireworks displays because the cities around here refuse to call it an Independence Day celebration, I've tried So we stay home, gather a few friends have a bon fire a shoot some guns.

Personally, I use the Betsy Ross, as this is the flag that truly represents what our ancestors fought and died for, not the current one.
Also, from Sipsey Street Irregulars.
"Plans for another oath renewal ceremony, this time on the Mall in Washington on June 13, 2009 as part of the Gathering of Eagles Victory in Iraq ceremony."

Excellent idea, Mr. Townsend. I think I'll start looking for a Culpepper or Gadsden to put up, along with some bunting around the place. Might send a more direct message to the neighborhood. Anyone know where to find either of these, online, and made in the USA? Thanks again. The Rev.

I'm sure this isn't USA made, though. I have bought a NC Secession and a Battle Flag from him, and they appear to be fine. I have expensive ones, but don't like to leave them up all the time, as they are pricey to replace. 43. We have a local surplus store here that I get my Gadsden flags from. 3x5 for $9.99. I've been flying one since November. I took down my U.S. flag after the election. My neighbor (libtard) asked me what the DONT TREAD ON ME flag was about and I told him he wouldn't understand. This guy voted for obammy simply because his wife's union told them to

Oh, please, Stoner. Don't get me started on unions. I've lived around UAW "workers" all my life, as well as Teamsters and Iron Workers, plus a few others.
Just like our nation today: What once was a good thing, has become something it was never meant to be.
Thanks for the flag info, gentlemen. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the links brock! ;D
Rev, you got that right! I have been a member of the steel workers, rubber workers, and teamsters. Biggest waste of my money ever!
I told my boss where I'm at now if they unionize I will be gone. I won't work for a union again.
