Good one, I've been mentioning "offhand" to friends and acquaintances my Grandmother's advice and techniques for living through hard times, that generation new what really hard times were, over the past few years I have been "remembering" and going back to that advice a lot.
Minimizing what I "need", relearning how to be "frugal"... in a nutshell, getting back to the "basics" in life.

Good read. There are a few points in there that I keep harping on to my friends and family. One is to always try to think through situations in theory so that if you find yourself in a similiar situation you might not freeze up while trying to decide what to do because you've already thought about it. The other major point I always try to ram home is to have multiple routes to take to reach any given place. If you only have one or 2 ways to get somewhere then you can easily be in trouble if someone is watching you because they know that you have to take that route. If you can find 4 or 5 different routes to take to get anywhere you can change it up constantly.
The biggest thing I harp on is situational awareness. This one drives my family nuts because if we go anywhere (like out to eat) I never sit with my back to the door and I am constantly looking around so that I know what is going on (which is the part that drives them crazy). If you are constantly aware of what is going on around you, then you are more apt to notice anything that is out of place and have a better chance of defending yourself or vacating the area before things go south.
Just my .02
