The Department of Commerce is set to hand off the final vestiges of American control over the Internet to international authorities in less than two months, officials have confirmed.
The department will finalize the transition effective Oct. 1, Assistant Secretary Lawrence Strickling wrote on Tuesday, barring what he called "any significant impediment."
The move means the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, which is responsible for interpreting numerical addresses on the Web to a readable language, will move from U.S. control to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, a multistakeholder body based in Los Angeles that includes countries such as China and Russia.
Critics of the move, most prominently Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, have pointed out the agency could be used by totalitarian governments to shut down the Web around the globe, either in whole or in part.
Leaked Soros Document Calls For Regulating Internet To Favor 'Open Society' Supporters
by Tyler Durden, Aug 29, 2016 7:10 PM
The Obama Administration says that the transition will have no practical effects on the internet's functioning or its users, and even considers the move necessary in order to maintain international support for the internet and to prevent a fracturing of its governance.
Civil society groups and activists are calling on Congress to sue the Obama Administration -- perhaps at least to postpone the date until more Americans are aware of the plan.
However, never one to miss an opportunity, The Daily Caller's Peter Hasson reports that:
I fully expect the Republicans to do exactly what they have been doing the entire time... Fully fund (and tacitly support) the obama agenda.
Congress has just one month to keep the internet under US control
By: Nate Madden, August 30, 2016
Both houses of Congress are out of session for another week and time is rapidly running out for lawmakers to save the internet.
When Congress comes back into session next Tuesday, it will only have a few short weeks to accomplish one of the most important tasks before it: ensuring that control of the internet does not fall into the hands of those who would actively censor it to the detriment of free speech and American interests.
On Sept. 30, the United States is poised to hand over control of the internet to the United Nations, following a years-long push by the Obama administration, after the Department of Commerce sub-administration signed off on the final plans to hand over control of the process on Aug. 16.
If the handoff goes through, the U.S. will no longer have controlling power over its own invention. This leaves Congress with just a month to block the effort, as they have in previous sessions...
Changing who controls ICANN jeopardizes our presidential election
September 20, 2016, 02:40 pm, By Theresa Payton
Changing who controls the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) so close to our presidential election will jeopardize the results of how you vote on Nov. 8 unless Congress stops this changeover. When the calendar hits Sept. 30, a mere 6 weeks before our election, the United States cannot be assured that if any web site is hacked, the responsible party will be held accountable. We cannot be sure if a web site is a valid. We cannot be sure if one country is being favored over another. These are all the things ICANN is responsible for and has worked perfectly since the Internet was created. Why change it now and so close to the election? Why does that matter to you as a voter?
Take a look at recent cyber activity as it relates to the election. The Democratic National Convention was breached comprising the entire party’s strategy, donor base, and indeed, national convention. Everything the DNC had done to prepare for a moment four years in the making (if not longer) was undermined by a hacker who had been in their system for some time but waited for the optimal moment to spring it on the DNC – opening day of the convention. The FBI and other U.S. agencies, as the headlines blare, suspect Russia is responsible for the hack. Recently, Vladimir Putin went so far as to say, "Does it matter who broke in? Surely what's important is the content of what was released to the public.”
The established order recognizes the threat. Hillary Clinton’s recent speeches condemning the alt-right and the “basket of deplorables,” and President Obama’s comments Monday about unspecified blogs “churning out a lot of misinformation” confirm the apprehension. The alt-right is part of the alternative media and takes a politically incorrect perspective on the mainstream’s racial, ethnic, sexual, and gender catechism. As such, it makes the easiest target, however, it is not the establishment’s real target. Obama gave up the game with the word “misinformation.” He’s not worried about misinformation—if he were Obamacare never would have become law—he’s worried about correct information, also known as the truth.
The alternative press shatters the cozy arrangement midwifed by Allen Dulles’ between the government and the MSM. The biggest threat to powers that be is always the truth. Just as they will steal everything you’ve got (see “You Will Be Poor”), they will suppress the truth. The alternative media has gone from success to success, but if Trump is elected, it will probably mark an apotheosis. The establishment will neither forgive nor forget, and sooner or later the alternative media will train its sights on Trump himself. It’s hard to believe that he won’t give it reason to do so—power does corrupt—especially for that segment of the alternative media with a more libertarian perspective.
Obama won the election he gets to set his agenda. said my worthless Senator Isakson, who has passed most of obama's trade deals and confirmed many of obama's judicial picks either by a yes vote or just by not standing in the way as the socialists roll 'em on through into their lifetime appointments.
With history (even recently) as a guide, the GOP will enevitably do what the Republicans do best... sit on their hands, and let the obamanation roll forward.
Will Republican leaders rubber stamp Obama’s internet giveaway? [Updated With Cartoon]

Congress is ironing out another of its continuing resolutions. Conservatives led by Ted Cruz are insisting that the resolution include language that would block the transition away from U.S. oversight of the Internet’s domain name system. Donald Trump has backed Cruz in this fight.
Why is ongoing U.S. oversight so important? Because, as Rick Manning, president of Americans for Limited Government, says:
Congress Sleepwalks As U.S. Loses Control of Internet
Bob Barr, Posted: Oct 05, 2016 12:01 AM
If one were to count how many times in the last 40 years Congress has passed -- on time -- all the appropriation bills necessary to keep the government running and avoid a government “shutdown,” you would need but one hand. Only four times in four decades (1976, 1988, 1994, and 1996) didCongress successfully manage to complete the task for which the Constitution grants it exclusive power – appropriating the monies needed to fund all federal agencies and programs.
This inability or unwillingness to do its job speaks volumes about the lack of leadership and resolve by what our Founders considered to be the most important of the three branches of the government created more than two and a quarter centuries ago.
China's Xi urges cooperation among nations in governance of global internet
Wed Nov 16, 2016 | 7:14am EST, By Catherine Cadell | WUZHEN, China
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday called for greater cooperation among nations in developing and governing the internet, while reiterating the need to respect so-called "cyber sovereignty".
Speaking at an internet conference in Wuzhen, in the eastern province of Zhejiang, Xi and propaganda chief Liu Yunshan signaled a willingness to step up China's role in global internet governance, seeking to rectify "imbalances" in the way standards across cyberspace are set...
World’s Most Brutal Dictators Move to Seize Internet, Digital Future – Next Week
by S. Noble • October 26, 2016
Thank You Obama and Hillary
The Wall Street Journal says that the future of our Internet might be at stake this week in Tunisia when a conference with more than 100 diplomats will debate the UN’s jurisdiction over the web. If you will remember Obama/Hillary abandoned all control over our Internet and we are now just one voice in 100 voices. The UN’s Orwellian World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly will severely impact “geopolitics and global economic growth and possibly internet freedom for billions of users”, the Journal reported.
The UN, aka the Dictators’ club, will discuss cyber crime, privacy, REGULATION of the Internet companies, applications and content. Even more importantly, they will discuss the Internet of Things that will connect billions of devices to a global network.
