As the news of the most recent terror attack in Paris were still coming in my thoughts began to drift in the direction of what this would mean for myself and my family here in the western region of North Carolina. The first thing that came to my mind was what new loss of freedom could we expect. 9-11 brought us Homeland Security, TSA, strip searches at the airport, increased spying on all Americans, limits on how I could move my money and the list could go on forever. What price will we as a people be willing to pay for security? Will we have the strength and determination to tell the powers that be that they have already encroached upon our freedoms far too much and that we are willing to live with the risks this world presents us to be free. History says no.
A enemy but not the only enemy is Islam as it is practiced in the traditional sense. Yes I know I have heard hundreds and hundreds of times that there are "good" Muslims. If so where are they? Are they in those Muslim nations who are supposedly our allies? If so why did not they stand up and take in the wave of Muslim "refugees" instead of allowing the flow to continue into Europe and yes here into the United States. Are those very rich Muslim countries indifferent to the plight of fellow Muslims or are they happy to see the flow of Muslims into western cultures where they will not assimilate and will be given sanctuary by the politically correct leaders and allow for the Islamization of Western culture. Most Western nations have paved the road to their demise not just by allowing this invasion to take place but by making it not only unacceptable to speak out against it but to label such speech a hate crime.
Here at home at the same time this attack took place on our universities and elsewhere the attack on free speech has ramped up into overdrive. Safe zones are demanded that will allow students and others to go to a place where they will not be confronted ideas and words that they find offensive. Islam does not allow cartoons of the prophet Mohamed and it is considered hate speech to speak ill of Islam. How different are these students and their progressive professors who suppress free expression of beliefs they find offensive? I have no doubt that many of them would like nothing more than to see those who they accuse of hate speech to be locked away. In fact given time to fester I have little doubt that they would cheer at the execution of those who do not bow to the will of Progressivism.
When I wake up each morning I ask myself am I more or less free than I was yesterday? Obviously the answer to that has been less free for quite some time now. I am doing what I can to free myself from the system and it is a continuing process but it is nearly impossible to free yourself entirely. When you live in the system the system places restrictions and demands upon you that cannot be avoided but I will do my best to move in that direction. My goal is now to create my own "safe" space and prepare for what is to come. A space big enough to take in my family when and if necessary. A space surrounded as much as possible by people who also just want to be left alone to be free.
