IRS chief: Special prosecutor would be "monumental" waste of money
By Stephanie Condon, CBS NewsJune 20, 2014, 10:49 AM
With six investigations already digging into the IRS's inappropriate targeting of political groups, appointing an independent special prosecutor to investigate the matter would be "a monumental waste of taxpayer funds," IRS Commissioner John Koskinen said in a heated exchange with a House Republican leader Friday morning.
Koskinen testified before the House Ways and Means Committee in the wake of the revelation that the IRS cannot produce emails from Lois Lerner -- the former IRS official at the heart of the controversy -- from 2009 through April 2011 because of a computer crash that Lerner suffered in 2011.
"What you have lost is all credibility," Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, R-Mich., told Koskinen. He added, "I don't believe the IRS went through every possible exercise to recover these documents."

More Holes Exposed In The IRS’s Story

“I don’t think an apology is owed” -IRS Commissioner John Koskinen
Note well the smirk on the face of the IRS Commissioner during this hearing. That smirk was on display all hearing long especially when he said no apology was owed to anyone because, well, they have lost anything in the last few months.
Can we use that excuse during an audit?
Today’s hearing about the IRS scandal told us one thing for sure. The IRS and this Administration is hiding something.

A New, More Sinister IRS Scandal
By J. Christian Adams, 20 Jun 2014
Yesterday was a significant day in the IRS abuse scandal. The scandal evolved from being about pesky delays in IRS exemption applications to a government conniving with outside interests to put political opponents in prison.
Emails obtained by Judicial Watch through the Freedom of Information Act reveal Lois Lerner cooking up plans with Justice Department officials to talk about ways to criminally charge conservative groups that are insufficiently quiet.

Lacking Curiosity, Lacking Credibility: The Media’s IRS Scandal Problem
June 16, 2014 By Mollie Hemingway
As of early Monday morning, there is no indication of the latest news on the scandal on the home page of CNN, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and MSNBC, to name the first four sites I checked.
And in the case of the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and MSNBC, there are no news stories about the lost emails anywhere on their site. If you get your news from these media outlets, you literally haven’t heard word one about this latest update. Covering up salacious scandal updates is appropriate behavior for public relations firms or house organs, perhaps, but it’s journalistically indefensible.
