Florida cops accused of using cellphone tracker without court permissionBy Adrienne Cutway, Orlando Sentinel, 9:16 a.m. EST, March 4, 2014 Florida police officers are accused of using a cellphone tracking and monitoring device without court permission, saying the device was on loan and they signed a confidentiality agreement with the manufacturer. The American Civil Liberties Union has submitted public records requests to nearly 30 police departments across the state and last week it filed a motion for public access to sealed judicial records regarding a case out of Tallahassee, according to a blog post on the ACLU's website. The device in question, commonly known as a "stingray," is designed to simulate a cellphone tower so nearby phones connect to the device thus making information about calls, text messages and whereabouts readily available. www.sun-sentinel.com/features/blogs/gone-viral/os-florida-cops-cellphone-tracker-20140304,0,7220186.post
