Being a big believer in Karma, this travesty will be rectified at some point... Rookie cop who shot 72-year-old dead in his home while investigating burglary at the WRONG address will not be charged *Fort Worth, Texas police officer R.A. Hoeppner shot dead Jerry Waller last May while accidentally searching his property in a burglary call *Waller saw bright lights outside the home and took his pistol to investigate *According to records, police told him to put the gun down but he refused and pointed at Hoeppner, causing the officer to shoot him seven times *Both cops involved have been with the Fort Worth Police Department for less than one year *A grand jury decided Wendesday there wasn't enough evidence to bring up charges against Hoeppner By Ashley Collman, PUBLISHED: 11:15 EST, 30 January 2014 | UPDATED: 11:21 EST, 30 January 2014 www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2548819/Rookie-cop-NOT-charged-killing-72-year-old-accidental-search-home.html

Truth is a always relevant to your opinion.
When I go for a look see with my pistol I keep in mind that only 1 in 10 chances it will be a crook. Thus I have the pistol down and behind my leg. This was part on the concealed course I attended. If you walk out pointing you can count on a return pre-emptory shot from most people rather they be a crook, your wife's lover, or a cop.
The words from an old book I read says it best.
Never draw unless you are ready to shoot.
Never aim unless the target is right.
Never look unless you know who it is.
In this case I have to side with the cops!
If I was standing in the dark and someone came out pointing. I too would use massive force!

Okay no!
However when you carry a gun to the exterior of you home and point it anywhere but up and down you risk the chance you will be shot by whoever is there.
Since it was a one on two we will never know who did what.
I was trying to get folks to understand that whether in combet or in your home if you pull it use it or keep it out of play.
I have a lot of rights! One is not to point my pistol at strangers unless they are inside my house. If they are I get a defensive position and fire for effect. Deadmen do not shoot back or testify in court!
If I run about in my skivies with a gun in the dark someone is going to shoot me.
In this case as I read it the DA said there was insufficient evidence to prosecute. It gets like this when one of the three knowledgible sources is dead and the other two have their story straight. Right or wrong they can't be chatged unless there is evidence!
Just my opinion!

I would say the evidence is; they were on the wrong property, looking in the wrong house and shot an innocent citizen...
I think that if your wife, father or mother were laying dead on the garage floor in their own house, you would have a better 'feel' for this shooting.
The cops MURDERED the guy pure and simple, if you were the shooter, everything being the same except for a badge, you would be in prison right now.

I do understand the whole "know your target" deal. I practice it all the time. I also know of to many thugs who play the home invasion game pretending to be a good guy officer. My property is my property. You are on it without my permission in the night I will confront you with a strong stance. I practice proper trigger control but I will be looking at you in my sights. These unseasoned police were wrong and their supervisor was negligent in putting them both together without the balance of a veteran officer.
I respect your thoughts but I also have mine.

That is a major problem these days, they are pulling in kids with little life experience, giving 'em the basics in training, then a gun and a badge.
