Story starts and ends with prejudice but the militia unit members nips it in the bud, and this is how it should be done, focus on local, ignore the "chatter" and press on with the mission. But don't over do it, when not in the field, jeans/khakis and a polo style shirt should be the uniform of the day, look like citizens not combatants. Set up some local events in your community, let people know that the Militia is THEM.

But these are warriors of the homeland, a grassroots armed militia protecting the Constitution and defending against tyranny, they say. Formed in 2009 after President Obama was inaugurated, the Light Foot Militia prepares to help in the event of emergency, a supplementary armed force in time of anarchy. The group is highly paranoid of government suppression of freedom.
"People think we're a bunch of nut jobs and that we talk about blowing things up and taking over the government or whatever, yet it is actively discouraged to talk about illegal things, not to engage in illegal activities," one member told Reuters. "You don't say you're trying to take over the government or anything else because that's not who we are, that's not what we do. We are here to support and defend the citizens of Idaho, period. End of story."

Tis is what is needed I think. While it is very important that all Militias have a solid base in combat soldiers, they really need to start putting in place a solid, intelectual, press corps! The average patriot is very proud of their participation, and their units. However they can't seem to use words that the press, even a fairly balanced writer like this, can't rewrite for clarity and ranchor.
