Chief’s 'easy machine gun conversion' challenge unanswered after three yearsMarch 20, 2013, By: David Codrea "This article is three years old and still is among the most sought-for pages on my web site," Bussjaeger recently related while revisiting the story. "Clearly a great many people are hoping to see Chief Pillo's remarkable full-auto-pump-action shotgun." "As of this update, she hasn't posted her demonstration of her easy conversion," he continues. "Of course, she's been pretty busy -- what with the drunk cops … and all -- so maybe this slipped her mind. For three years." www.examiner.com/article/chief-s-easy-machine-gun-conversion-challenge-unanswered-after-three-years

There is no defense for trying to infringe on an americans rights. However what she was probably referring to was the older M-14's auto switch, or the M-16A1's sear switch that the gun buffs used to try and duplicate back in the 70's and early 80's to achieve the Automatic firing mode. Problem was that the exactness was so critical that many never worked, and others would lose the switchability after 2 or 3 magazines. She probably also read the FBI letters on the guy they tried in the Midwest when his AR-15 malfunctioned at the range and fired 2 rounds due to ammo and cleaning, but was never able to be repeated even though they sent him to jail for a Class 3 weapons violation.

Her statement was a PUMP SHOTGUN could be made full auto with ease. As for the issue of turning an AR, or M1A full auto, neither is difficult, and no they do not stop working after just a few mags. It was legal to convert both before 1986, you just had to file paper work and pay the $200. People who did not know what they were doing did not harden the metal by quick cooling it, or case hardening it. In one method you heat the metal till it is cherry red and cool quickly in a used motor oil bath, in the other method you heat a metalbox with a mixture of carbon and the metal inside for a couple of hours at around 500 degrees. The time and temp depends on the metal and the carbon compound used. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Case_hardeningBoth methods are used in gunsmithing and knife making.
