lewrockwell.com/grigg/grigg-w305.html"I will not enforce an unconstitutional law against any citizen of Smith County," insisted Sheriff Larry Smith. The sheriff wants his constituents to believe that he would refuse to participate in a federally mandated gun grab, or permit one to be carried out by federal officials within his jurisdiction. Yet ten days before Smith offered that assurance, his office had taken part in an early-morning SWAT rampage throughout East Texas in which 73 warrants were served as part of the federal government’s patently unconstitutional war on drugs. During a December 2011 campaign debate, Smith said that he wanted to "invest more resources" – that is, redirect wealth plundered from the productive – into a "Drug Task Force," and insisted that under his administration the Sheriff’s Office would embrace a "Task Force mentality" in dealing with law enforcement issues.

Who's fault is this? The Sheriff is the highest elected Law enforcement officer in your county. Still he must beg for grants, which all come with Federal strings attached to meet your expectations of him. When there is a disaster and he asks for volunteers he has to pay for them to get them. While the County may build him a Jail he must pay the guards out of the same budget he pays his deputies from. If every member of the unorganized Militia (over 21 and under 62 with no job in the state Guard or Federal Government) in the county sent him a letter offering to help him if called upon if he stops performing unlawful violations of his oath and the State and Federal Constitution, then he would have a choice. He would also see his next election in a new light! Many of these Sheriffs are elected solely because they have a way to pay the bills without raising taxes. Most of "We the People" are unwilling to do our part to help them. Remember when you point your finger there are 4 more pointing back at you.

Well, let's see - ANY Co. Sheriff who decides not to enforce any "new" gun control "laws" is batting a thousand in my book.
I think each and every one of us should be contacting our own County Sheriff's - by email and by phone - to ask them what their stand on this issue is going to be and to make that stance public in a statement (as several of the other Sheriff's have done). I've already contacted my Sheriff, FI. (Have you?)
I understand the authors' viewpoint on this (that the methods employed in the "war on drugs" aren't Constitutional) and I will admit that "embracing a Task Force mentality" doesn't sound real good - unless he was just referring to in regard to drug issues (sorry, I just don't have a lot of sympathy for drug dealer's).
Any Co. Sheriff willing to go out on a limb for the 2nd should be encouraged and supported. I'm sure we're going to see retaliation against the ones' who already have UNLESS we can convince MORE Sheriff's to join in WITH them on this. You know the drill - just look what happened to Sheriff Joe when HE bucked the system.
I guess my point here is that ANYONE who publicly supports the 2nd as-written is deserving of our help and our gratitude - until and unless it turns out they're just paying lip-service to it when push comes to shove.
Just HMO. Pete

This. As well as any politician, political group, or individual who skylines themselves regardless of Party affiliation.
Was at our State rally on Saturday and it was a very heartening experience. Considering the weather, there were the same people I would more than likely be fighting along side should this whole situation go pear-shaped.
Made me feel REALLY good about our chances.
Let's do what we can ahead of time to prevent it if we can, and prepare for it in case we can't.
