Luckily we are bucking the trend. In the last month I hired 3 more people and brought back an army veteran who was just released from a call back to duty. We are not a big manufacturing company so that is an increase of 12% in our work force.

Business is good for us right now and growing. We made the decision to hire and to add an additional half a million dollars of new equipment in the upcoming fiscal year which starts for us in October. No use sitting on the fence as it only rubs you raw in the wrong place. If there is another slowing in the economy we can adjust, tighten our belt and get by. If it absolutely tanks and it probably will we will lose it all anyway so no need to hold back now. Might as well go out in style. As always while preparing for the worst we are also praying for the best.
As to hiring vets it is the least I can do. The percentage of vets who make excellent employees is much higher than hiring untrained people off the streets. I also like to hire older folks in their 50's and even early 60's(my age group). More often much more reliable with a wealth of experience and I always thought it strange that many employers even though age discrimination is unlawful seem to over look this resource.
