Folks,
Just wanted to say a quick word about comms. When the feces hit the rotary oscillator, HF ham will be one of the few ways available to communicate what is going on and get updates, across the county, state, and across state lines, and even internationally. The repeater frequencies, UHF, VHF etc. will be taken over by FEMA, EMS, etc. in this type of situation. By the way, your cell phones and mobile web, etc, work on repeaters too.
That being said, NOW is the time to make sure you can can communicate with those of like mind via an HF HAM radio. Trying to accomplish this after the fact will be a very harsh reality check, trying to learn how and assemble the required devices so that you are not an island in a sea of chaos will be next to impossible after the fact, and then trying to find the right frequencies etc will only complicate the matter further.
Please take the time to dedicate a bit of your preparation dollars and skills to acquiring the needed gear, and learning to use it, as well as settling on frequencies to use and at what times.
I am not a radio expert by any means, but prudence dictates that I learn these things as well. Join me in acquiring and learning how to use these very valuable skills and equipment.
In the near future you will be seeing some standardized planning and suggested equipment for each of us to use in the 7 pillars area under the comms pillar. I ask that you make this a priority in your preparations. We don't want to wake up one day and discover that everything we commonly use to communicate with the other members of L&P, our families, our friends, and our neighbors has been shut down by an emergency and we have no way of knowing what is going on, or checking on loved ones.
If strongly believe that a HF HAM radio will be the only reliable means of communication in such a situation.
If you cannot communicate, how can you have a network?
