It’s Tracking Your Every Move and You May Not Even KnowBy NOAM COHEN, Published: March 26, 2011 A favorite pastime of Internet users is to share their location: services like Google Latitude can inform friends when you are nearby; another, Foursquare, has turned reporting these updates into a game. Malte Spitz was surprised by how much detail Deutsche Telekom had about his whereabouts. But as a German Green party politician, Malte Spitz, recently learned, we are already continually being tracked whether we volunteer to be or not. Cellphone companies do not typically divulge how much information they collect, so Mr. Spitz went to court to find out exactly what his cellphone company, Deutsche Telekom, knew about his whereabouts. This has been made MUCH easier because almost EVERYONE'S phone is GPS capable. Even if you don't pay for the GPS to be usable by you, your phone still can be tracked because it's in there, unless you take the battery out and only put it in to use your phone. How long has Government Motor's been putting on-star in their vehicles? Look at all the highway and private security cameras popping up all over the place. They just installed more cameras on an Interstate route I drive everyday, "to watch traffic flow and watch for wrecks", right....
We better get used to the fact that the days of anonymity are over unless one is to take extreme steps to insure one's privacy and anonymity.
Some unmarked white federal government SUV was driving behind me for a while yesterday morning while on my way home from work. Now I don't really believe it was a tail because of the circumstances involved, my prior location, his prior location, etc.... But after my experience a while back I seem to be able to spot these vehicles from quite a distance now, those small antennas really stick out if you're looking for them.
I could not make out the agency symbol on the license plate, I didn't really want to get THAT close, the driver was alone but it still makes me sit up and take notice and wonder what's going on. I am near, within 10 miles of a nuclear power station and only about 15 miles from Camp Perry so, it's really hard to tell what he was up to.

Knowledge is you power! If you are aware that your moves are being tracked with your Cell phone, blackberry, Android, etc what do you do next? First you learn how it is done. Every Cell tower is a measuring post. The system is designed not as a tracking device rather as a call movement device. When you flip, punch, slide, press the call imitating point on your phone you are possibly within the acceptable signal range of three to four of the towers in your area. Within the first 15 seconds of the call the system determines the best tower to handle your call and sends an in house signal to that tower to handle the call. Your phone receives a signal that switches it to to the frequency of that tower and it's assigned channel for your call. This is usually not recognized by you as a move since the call is going on. If you are mobile the system detects the signal strength dropping and sends signals to towers in your area to test and if it finds a tower with a clear channel and better signal you move again. These moves are recorded in a database for that call so if you roam or hangup the minutes can be assessed to your account. These records are being written to continuously by the systems and if a Federal Judge issues an order they can request that the logs for your phone EDIC can be written to a specific terminal for monitoring by an Agent. Is this good or bad? That is not the concern of your cell phone or the phone company system. In our society one person has always wanted to be able to keep track of someone else. The person being tracked if he is aware of the tracking it is their decision to have the phone, have it available to be monitored, or to do without it. Could you conduct your business without your cell phone? If so why do you have the phone if being monitored bothers you? Just like the street cameras, and the in store security cameras. If you don't want to be watched go shop where they don't have one. However there are ways to avoid that tracking. However know that if they are watching you and you drop off the screen you will quickly attract their added attention and possibly get a human tracker in lieu of the phone track. The cell phone can not be guaranteed to be "OFF just because you press that button sequence. These phones today are really small computers. They have both hardwired instructions you know nothing about, and what is called Firmware that is preprogrammed into your phone by applications and the manufacturers. There are even ways that the phone can be programmed to work sporadically on the memory battery if you remove the battery from the case. So how, short of a big boot, can you turn it off. Who cares? First there are Faraday cases for phones on the market. These cases are constructed of two layers of leather or leatherette with a woven copper mesh between them. When the phone is placed into this case there is no opening that the phone can radiate through. However you can also not receive any calls while in there. Inconvenient but secure. Personally I found an old mechanics socket box at a flea market and when I need to make a trip where I don't want anyone to see I turn my phone off and drop it into my socket case. Then when I finish I drive back to the point of turn off and open the case and turn the phone back on. How you achieve that off grid condition is up to you. My way if i get hit by a big truck I can get the phone out and turn it on to ask for help. Remember though that the phone is not your only in house spy. That low jack you bought for the car talks to a company about you and your location 24 hours a day. So MAY your on board computer in your car or truck. Many of these devices communicate with the different parts of your car using Bluetooth or WiFi if made after 2007. If you have on-star it does as well. Remember that it is not paranoia if the guy behind you in the trenchcoat fails to flash his privates when you turn quickly to confront him! You may actually be under surveillance.
