A 90% cogent article in The New York Times discusses the utter absence of any contact with reality in most Americans' retirement plans. The numbers do not come close to adding up. The article is here. lewrockwell.com/north/north1174.html

Retirement is such a famous word. In the Military I worked about 14 hours a day. In 1992 I retired from the Military and on the next day was selling building lots in a Golf community. I worked from 7:30 AM till about 8 Pm. 13 hours 7 days a week. 2006 I retired from real Estate and closed my Office. The next day I was doing a service call in Washington DC at the Treasury Building. Now I work Mon thru Thurs about 6 hours a day prepping my house for the coming events. Then I help my wife in her store Friday, Sat, and Sunday 10am till 7 PM.
My Grand Dad explained it best. He said that Retirement was what you did to a Ford every 50,000 miles. Then you put it back on the road till they fell off again.
