Pacepa: Yes, we won the Cold War, but unlike other wars the Cold War did not end with an act of surrender and with the defeated enemy throwing down his weapons. But no, we are not fighting Marxism in our country, because the American people have not yet been warned that their country is being contaminated by Marxism. A few conservative luminaries like Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly have warned that Marxism is infecting the United States, but neither the Republicans’ “Pledge to America” nor the Tea Party’s “Contract from America” has mentioned the word Marxism. www.wnd.com/2012/06/top-soviet-bloc-defector-marxism-infecting-u-s/

When some time ago News Week could have a cover showing a red hand and a blue hand clasped in a handshake with a headline "We Are All Socialists Now" there should be little doubt that even if we have not embraced total Marxism we have certainly travelled far down the path of European style socialism. The true socialists and Marxists are just upset that both sides top to bottom don't admit it and scream it from the roof tops. The American people have in their acceptance of the nanny state are living the socialist life but want to think they are still free. as a group most everyone wants their portion of the government largess. In some cases they may not want you to have your portion but they sure as hell want theirs.
Freedom is not free. That does not only refer to those willing to sacrifice their lives to preserve Liberty. It also refers to the fact that Freedom and Liberty are not always easy. It takes responsibility and self reliance. It means living your life without the aid of government big or small because government exists only to protect your liberty not to give you stuff or solve your every problem. It means helping those in your community who truly need help and to do so without expecting anything in return. It means treating your neighbor as you would want to be treated yourself.
I am old enough to remember when I grew up in rural NH glimpses of what those times were like long before the Great society and the birth of the nanny state. Most Americans want to live in the shadow of what once was true freedom which is nothing more than democratic socialism. Most Americans could not handle true Liberty and those in the parties on both sides, red and blue, will never give up their power and allow it to happen. They would then become insignificant servants to the people and not the almighty powerbrokers they have become today.
