Declaration of the Causes and Necessity of Taking up Arms
I found this quote on a post by TSTG Clough on the Sons of Liberty site
liberty.spruz.com/
and it prompted me to look up the entire context at
www.nationalcenter.org/1775DeclarationofArms.html
In my humble opinion we have come full circle and the time is soon coming upon us where those of us who will stand for Liberty will be forced to finally make a stand as our founders were forced to do so their day. Our Founders did not want to take the path which they were forced to take and they spent many years and made attempts to petition the powers over then for justice. We have done the same and must continue to do so but it is obvious that few in power on either side are listening. It is time to tell them that the time has come to listen or else. Or else what? We as a people will not take it anymore, not one more transgression against us as a people, not one more breach of Freedom.
"We gratefully acknowledge, as signal instances of the Divine favour towards us, that his Providence would not permit us to be called into this severe controversy, until we were grown up to our present strength, had been previously exercised in warlike operation, and possessed of the means of defending ourselves. With hearts fortified with these animating reflections, we most solemnly, before God and the world, declare, that, exerting the utmost energy of those powers, which our beneficent Creator hath graciously bestowed upon us, the arms we have been compelled by our enemies to assume, we will, in defiance of every hazard, with unabating firmness and perseverence, employ for the preservation of our liberties; being with one mind resolved to die freemen rather than to live slaves..."
"In our own native land, in defence of the freedom that is our birthright, and which we ever enjoyed till the late violation of it -- for the protection of our property, acquired solely by the honest industry of our fore-fathers and ourselves, against violence actually offered, we have taken up arms. We shall lay them down when hostilities shall cease on the part of the aggressors, and all danger of their being renewed shall be removed, and not before."
Thomas Jefferson and Colonel John Dickinson
These thoughts brought me to another quote of Thomas Jefferson:
"Single acts of tyranny may be ascribed to the accidental opinion of a day. But a series of oppressions, begun at a distinguished period, and pursued unalterably through every change of ministers, too plainly proves a deliberate systematic plan of reducing us to slavery."
Note the phrase "every change of ministers" and remember that we have an election coming this fall. Every "public servant" or wanna be "public servant" needs to be reminded we have had enough. If you take the oath to follow the Constitution then you must follow the Constitution. "We the People" have had enough...
