...all the way back to Boston. Just a few hours ago the first shots were fired. The regulars are trying to rally but soon they will tuck-tail and being their arduous journey back to Boston. God praise our dead patriots! By the rude bridge that arched the flood, Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled, Here once the embattled farmers stood, And fired the shot heard round the world. The foe long since in silence slept; Alike the conqueror silent sleeps; And Time the ruined bridge has swept Down the dark stream which seaward creeps. On this green bank, by this soft stream, We set to-day a votive stone; That memory may their deed redeem, When, like our sires, our sons are gone. Spirit, that made those heroes dare, To die, and leave their children free, Bid Time and Nature gently spare The shaft we raise to them and thee.

I would also like to honor this day in memory of those who left home and their work behind to offer their lives and personal ambitions to fight against tyranny against what others would claim to be insurmountable odds. It is also my desire to honor my ancestor Theophilus Hays who in 1776 joined the 2nd North Carolina Regiment of the Continental Army at White Plains, NY. In memory of him and all who followed and sacrificed in the name of freedom throughout the history of our beloved nation to this day I offer my most heartfelt thanks and promise them that their efforts will NOT BE FOR NAUGHT. We will continue in their heroic footsteps as we struggle to regain what they so valiantly secured for us and their offspring as long as patriot love of country and principle dominate the depths of our convictions at the center of our souls. May God graciously bless us in this resolve and grant victory to our efforts for the sake of LIBERTY.
