Gun Sales In 2020 Are Absolutely Crushing Records
Anders Hagstrom, July 01, 2020 7:04 PM ET
2020 keeps seeing gun sale records beaten month after month, with an all-time high 3.9 million NICS firearm background checks being conducted in June alone, according to FBI statistics.
So far in 2020, three months have sported over 3 million NICS background checks, more than any previous month since the FBI began recording the statistics 22 years ago in 1998. March saw 3.7 million checks, May say 3.1 million, and June 3.9 million.

FBI: Record-shattering surge in gun checks as BLM, 2020 election, virus boost sales
by Paul Bedard, July 01, 2020 10:54 AM
The FBI recorded its highest-ever number of background checks for gun sales in June, a 70% jump over June 2019 and the latest evidence that more guns will be sold in 2020 than ever in American history.
The agency’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System said it conducted 3,931,607 checks in June, beating the record of 3,740,688 registered in March. So far this year, there have been 19,180,047 NICS checks, more than in all of the first 14 years of the system started in 1998.
While the number does not exactly correlate with gun sales, it is used to estimate the number of weapons that trade hands.

Americans Just Bought Five Million More Guns
Kyle Smith, June 2, 2020 5:51 PM
More than 1.7 million firearms were sold in the U.S. last month, up 80 percent compared to last May. That follows a 71 percent surge in April to just under 1.8 million sold, and just under two million guns were sold in March.
Some perspective: The all-time record, following the Sandy Hook massacre and President Obama’s address vowing to make a major push for more gun control, was two million guns sold in January 2013. This chart shows a general trend upward for years. In September 2001, gun sales were only about 750,000, and that was a month when sales surged.
So we’re looking at just a hair under record gun sales for each of the last three months, totaling about 5.5 million firearms sold in 90 days. Presumably June gun sales will also be robust.
