We've said for years that many are just not giving up their 'ownership' status to govt stooges. But if you look at the ever increasing CCW data, the 'ownership' numbers are way greater than they are admitting... and THAT is what keeps the govt wolves at bay. UPDATE: Gun ownership remains at 47%, but that probably underestimates the true ratecrimeresearch.org, 25 Mar 2018 UPDATE: Do you ever notice that most of these surveys on gun ownership seem to be done soon after a mass public shooting? It isn’t like they include this question in surveys they do every March or October. A new survey conducted from March 10th to 14th, 2018 by NBC News/Wall Street Journal shows that gun ownership has leveled off at 47% or 48% range over the last year. Has gun ownership gone up 6 percentage points in just three years? Probably not. That is the equivalent of a 13 percent increase in gun ownership. Most likely, many people were unwilling to tell pollsters that they owned guns. Still, with almost half of Americans owning guns according to this poll, one would have thought that it would get some news coverage. These results imply that there are 59.3 million households with guns in 2017. With an average household size of 2.53, that implies about 150 million people living in households with guns. crimeresearch.org/2018/03/problems-with-using-the-general-social-survey-to-measure-gun-ownership/

As I said above; the numbers don't add up... Gun Sales Soar, Set Record in March Amid Push for New Gun-Control MeasuresMarch background checks smash old record by almost 250,000 with over 2.7 million checksStephen Gutowski, April 3, 2018 1:30 pm Last month saw the most gun-related background checks run by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of any March on record, documents released by the agency on Tuesday show. With 2,767,699 checks conducted by the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in March 2018, the month beats the previous record of 2,523,265 set in March 2016 by 244,434 checks. That represents a 9.68 percent increase. The March results put 2018 on pace to see more gun-related background checks than 2017, the second-best year on record, but still behind 2016, the best year on record. The number of checks run through NICS in a month is considered one of the strongest indicators for how well gun sales are doing because each sale made by a federally licensed dealer, such as a gun store, is subject to a check. The state, however, is not an exact representation of gun sales due to a number of factors. For instance, the vast majority of states don't require checks on the sale of used guns between private parties, some states use the checks in their process for issuing gun-carry permits, and sales of multiple guns during a single transaction by a dealer generally only requires a single background check. freebeacon.com/issues/gun-sales-soar-set-record-march-amid-push-new-gun-control-measures/
