Justice Department: No criminal charges for Lerner, others in IRS scandal
Published October 23, 2015, FoxNews.com
The Justice Department announced Friday afternoon that it will not bring criminal charges against Lois Lerner or any other IRS official involved in the targeting of Tea Party groups.
In a letter to leaders of the House Judiciary Committee, the department said the investigation into the controversy is over and while they found "mismanagement, poor judgment and institutional inertia," they found "no evidence that would support a criminal prosecution."
"What occurred is disquieting and may necessitate corrective action -- but it does not warrant criminal prosecution," Assistant Attorney General Peter J. Kadzik wrote.

Confirming once again that the U.S. has full devolved into a total banana republic, moments ago CNN reported that the US Department of "Justice" is closing its two-year investigation into whether the IRS improperly targeted tea party and other conservative groups. There will be no charges against former IRS official Lois Lerner or anyone else at the agency, the Justice Department said in a letter.
Tea party targeting accusations, legal issues persist for IRS after Justice ends probe
By Stephen Dinan - The Washington Times - Sunday, October 25, 2015
The IRS is still holding up the nonprofit applications of tea party groups, including one that has been waiting nearly six years for approval, as conservatives panned the Justice Department’s announcement last week that it had cleared the tax agency, and former senior executive Lois G. Lerner, of any wrongdoing.
Cleta Mitchell: DOJ Probe of IRS Abuses Was a 'Sham'
By Greg Richter, Monday, 26 Oct 2015 10:49 PM
The Department of Justice investigation into IRS abuses against conservative tax-exempt groups was a "sham," Cleta Mitchell, lawyer for one of those groups, tells Newsmax TV.
The DOJ announced last week it would not pursue criminal charges against former IRS official Lois Lerner. Mitchell has sued on behalf of True the Vote and its president Catherine Engelbrecht. "I don't think they did a real investigation," Mitchell said Monday on "Newsmax Prime." "They never interviewed any of the victims. To my knowledge they did not interview a single victim of the IRS targeting."

Lois Lerner demands secrecy in tea party targeting lawsuit testimony
April 15, 2017, By Rick Moran
The IRS manager most directly responsible for the targeting of tea party groups has demanded that her deposition for an upcoiming class action lawsuit related to the scandal be kept secret.
Lois Lerner, former head of the tax exempt department at the IRS, claims that she has received death threats in the past and fears that publicity surrounding her deposition will lead to similar threats.
Lois Lerner demands secrecy, blames death threats over IRS tea party targeting
By Stephen Dinan - The Washington Times - Thursday, April 13, 2017
Former IRS senior executive Lois G. Lerner told a federal court this week that she faces the possibility of death threats if her role in the tax agency’s tea party-targeting becomes public, and asked a judge to forever seal her upcoming deposition in a class-action lawsuit brought by hundreds of groups that were targeted.
Mr. Lerner and Holly Paz, another figure from the IRS tea party targeting, told the judge they’ve already faced “harassment and death threats” before, and said they fear another media firestorm if their version of events from the tea party targeting were to become public.
The two women said they are willing to testify, but said they could be putting “their lives in serious jeopardy.”

Judge: Lois Lerner’s tea party-targeting testimony can stay secret — for now
By Stephen Dinan - The Washington Times - Thursday, May 18, 2017
Lois G. Lerner and Holly Paz, two key figures in the IRS‘ tea party-targeting, can keep testimony about their role in the targeting secret, at least for now, a federal judge ruled Thursday.
The two women had said they feared death threats and other harassment if their depositions in a class action lawsuit against the IRS became public.
U.S. District Judge Michael R. Barrett had originally ordered their depositions be sealed, but on Thursday he removed that prohibition and instead said the testimony should be deemed “confidential,” keeping it secret until he can see what the women had to say and what effect releasing it to the public would have.
He said the parties in the case can eventually ask to make the information public, and at that point the burden will be on Ms. Lerner and Ms. Paz to explain why it should be kept secret.

Conservative group hoping for 'perp walks' after breakthrough in IRS lawsuit
by Melissa Quinn | Aug 27, 2017, 12:01 AM
One of the groups that sued the Internal Revenue Service over its targeting of conservative and Tea Party groups believes there has been a breakthrough that will help them draw a more complete picture of what went on behind the scenes at the agency, four years after it took its case to court.
In a lawsuit involving True the Vote, Judge Reggie B. Walton of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ordered the IRS last week to release the names of employees involved in targeting conservative and Tea Party groups. Walton also told the IRS to explain why groups were targeted and search for additional records in agency databases from May 2009 to March 2015.
The IRS has until Oct. 16 to complete its records search.
