Ex-Nobel Official: Barack Obama’s Peace Prize Didn’t Have Desired Effect
by John Sexton, 17 Sep 2015
The ex-secretary of the Nobel Committee says in a soon-to-be-released book that awarding the Peace Prize to Barack Obama in 2009 did not have the desired effect.
Geir Lundestad served as secretary to the committee for 25 years until he retired near the end of last year. In a new book, which is set to be released Thursday, Lundestad says awarding Obama the Peace Prize was intended to strengthen his hand but that it did not have the desired effect. He writes, “Even many of Obama’s supporters believed that the prize was a mistake. In that sense the committee didn’t achieve what it had hoped for.”

CAMP SWIFT, Iraq (AP) — Thirteen years ago, Chase Snow's father was among the American troops who moved into the Iraqi city of Mosul during the U.S.-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein. Now Snow, a U.S. Army specialist, is deployed in Iraq to help in the fight to retake the city from the Islamic State group.
The assault on Mosul, Iraq's second largest city, is bringing American forces into their most significant role in Iraq in years, in terms of numbers and presence on the front lines.
Nobel Chief Finally Admits He Regrets Giving Obama the Peace Prize
Warner Todd Huston, January 3, 2019
Anyone with half an ounce of brains immediately knew in 2009 that the Nobel Peace Prize committee was making itself look foolish for giving Barack Obama its top award even though he had only been president for about five minutes. Now the group’s former secretary is admitting that the whole thing was a huge mistake.
Nobel’s former secretary, Geir Lundestad, told the media that he thought giving Obama the award would spur him to great accomplishments. Instead, Obama did nothing of note over the next eight years.
