Is America Still the Land of the Free?April 15, 2013/ Austin Paul On Saturday, I gave a speech to a local Tea Party group that posed the question of whether or not America can still be considered the land of the free. I have come to the conclusion in recent days that America is in fact no longer the land of the free. I have decided that the title is something that we gave up long ago. We live in a nation of constantly expanding state power. Whether it be modern examples like the Patriot Act and the NDAA or historic examples like Japanese internment and the Alien and Sedition Acts, the government has always had a general disregard for civil liberties. Throughout its history, the government of the United States has convinced the American people that the small violations of liberty will leave the people safer and better off all around. This lie has allowed the government to lay a foundation of an Orwellian style police state and it has resulted in more than a few small violations of the people's liberty. Don't believe me? Look at the state of New York and do some research on the Patriot Act. thebandofpatriots.com/opinion/2013/4/14/is-america-still-the-land-of-the-free#

The answer is correct but the pretext is not. We are still blaming the fictional corporation for the loss of those "rights reserved to the states or not denied to the states, or the people" We can not be free if we constantly look to big brother to agree with our assumption of those rights. If next week 2000 people sent the State department of Transpostation their Dirvers "PERMIT" and told them that you did not have a commercial conveyance and did not need these and would they please send them a letter attesting to that the Governors Office would go beserk. If 3000 people got up next week and put their piston on their belt and went shopping the local LEO would go back to the office and quiver. Those rights we concede to the States are no longer ours till we begin to use them and assert them. Failure to assert our rights is all that keeps the states in business.
