Report: Trump to overturn Obama’s ban on military equipment for policeBeth Baumann Aug 27, 2017 7:20 pm The Trump administration is considering overturning an Obama administration policy that banned surplus military equipment being used by local police departments, USA Today reported. This policy change would allow police departments around the country to utilize excess military equipment, such as armored vehicles, “high-caliber weapons,” bayonets and grenade launchers. “Assets that would otherwise be scrapped can be re-purposed to help state, local and tribal law enforcement better protect public safety and reduce crime,” a document obtained by USA Today said. The Fraternal Order of Police have advocated for a policy reversal, saying communities that are tight on funds could benefit from the surplus equipment. www.theblaze.com/news/2017/08/27/report-trump-to-overturn-obamas-ban-on-military-equipment-for-police/
The Standing Army That Our Founders Warned Us About? If you give civilians military equipment and training to make 'em more like a Military unit, then the natural end product is that they act like a Military Unit... a mindset that is incompatible with civilian Law Enforcement.
There is a stark difference in how the Military and Law Enforcement carry out 'operations' and the two approaches should not be muddied in a non combat environment.

I was talking to a county 'worker' yesterday that was all for Trump doing this, said he had family and friends that were cops and ALL were for it. After I informed him of my background and that no NOT ALL cops were for it, He just shrugged, mumbled something and then moved on, a little later I bumped into him again, he started to try and justify his statement, saying that Law Enforcement was "woefully outgunned". I told him that LE could still get what ever they wanted without .Gov intervention, He said "but then they would have to get approval", I said yes, the Citizens would have to approve such aquisitions, he looked a little shocked as he squealed/mumbled a "NO!" and stormed off... at least I know what side he's on. Trump Rolls Back Ban On Transfer Of Military Equipment To Law Enforcement AgenciesThis is prime law-and-order stuff. Trump has made it clear law enforcement is on the right side of history. Everyone who doubts or criticizes cops is simply wrong. A ban put in place as a reaction to militarized police responses is being reversed because no one up top cares how police are perceived. AG Sessions has already killed off federal civil rights investigations of local law enforcement agencies. Now, police will find it easier than ever to dude up as war-fighters, rather than easily-identifiable public servants. www.techdirt.com/articles/20170828/10570538094/trump-rolls-back-ban-transfer-military-equipment-to-law-enforcement-agencies.shtml

If the Government also sold, loaned, or gave the same type of 'taxpayer paid for' weapons and equipment to Non-Badged Civilians, then I would not have a problem with it. But thats not what the Federal Government is doing, they are arming their own local/state 'militia' units... for want of a better term. Just as with State Governments and the loss of their State Rights when dealing with the Federal Government, Once they take the money/equipment they are beholden to their benefactor, lest they lose 'their' money and equipment. We have seen case after case where this equipment is detrimental to the behavior of civilian law enforcement, they are NOT military units, although these days you can barely tell the difference sometimes. As I have always said about a militarized 'Law Enforcement' Force: If you are using Military Equipment, Military Terminology, Military Tactics and in some cases active and/or former military personnel, then you ARE a Military Unit... The founders also envisioned the same problem and took steps to mitigate it, unfortunately the Constitution is no longer in effect to protect our interests. The Alarming Militarization Of American Policeby Tyler Durden, Aug 31, 2017 7:40 PM, Via StockBoardAsset.com, President Donald Trump has signed an executive order clearing the way for local police in America to receive military gear such as grenade launchers, high-calibre weapons, and armored vehicles. Trump and the DOJ have just reversed former President Barack Obama’s restrictions that allows local police departments to receive surplus military equipment. Per ABCNews, Restoring the program will “ensure that you can get the lifesaving gear that you need to do your job,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions told a cheering crowd at a national convention of the Fraternal Order of Police in Nashville, Tennessee. The group, America’s largest organization of rank-and-file officers, endorsed Trump for president after he promised to revamp the program. The big move by Trump comes at a time where American inner cities such as Baltimore and Chicago are in absolute turmoil. The President has been very vocal about the prior administration’s unfair criticism of police forces and it was an easy win to appease his core supporters. www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-08-31/alarming-militarization-american-police

Tracking Military Weaponry and War Machines Flowing to America's Local Police DepartmentsAug 31, 2017 @ 11:58 PM 1,472, Adam Andrzejewski This week, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced President Donald Trump's plan to distribute military gear to state and local law enforcement agencies. The rule change means weapons typically reserved for war-time use – tracked armored (tank-like) vehicles, weaponized aircraft and vessels, grenade launchers, bayonets, and firearms with ammunition of .50-caliber or higher – will start flowing to local law enforcement agencies through the Department of Defense’s 1033 Program. Yes, the story is familiar. In 2016, we sounded the alarm at Forbes about the Obama administration sending heavy weapons to local police departments. We noted that people of good faith on both the left and right were raising serious concerns regarding civil liberties and the growth of government. Today, the same questions are valid: What’s the legitimate law enforcement purpose for these weapons? Does the militarization of local police threaten our civil liberties? www.forbes.com/sites/adamandrzejewski/2017/08/31/tracking-military-weaponry-and-war-machines-flowing-to-americas-local-police-departments/
