Going straight from the military to law enforcement is one of my biggest peeves these days, got a lotta friends throughout my career that went into LE and as far as I know they were and are good cops, but today its different, when a lot of the older NCO's (Mil and LE) left, so did a lot of the respect. These days, placing freshly returned combat vets into a militarized law enforcement environment is just asking for problems. Due to their backgrounds, many of these guys gravitate towards LE Spec-Ops, they roll in from an active ranger unit into an actively used SWAT team and the operating 'environment' has never really changed, same tactics, same techniques, so they never really get the hard break between their military operating environment and their new role as a Law Enforcement Officer, to some its just another mission. As I have noted before, the engagement mindset between military and civilian law enforcement is very different.
Is Police Brutality Really on the Rise?Apr. 24, 2015 11:06am Liz Klimas “The military trains a lot of the SWAT teams,” he said. “When SWAT teams come in the door … they’re coming in as military now.” “I’ll say this: I think a lot of cops are victims of training that’s been instituted by a paranoid federal government,” Whitehead added. He thinks even the mentality of cops and how they view citizens has changed over the years. The training and military-style gear, such as AR-15 rifles and black boots, changes the psychology of the police officer, Whitehead said. www.theblaze.com/stories/2015/04/24/is-police-brutality-really-on-the-rise/
